System Engineer (Microsoft 365 & Hybrid Collaboration)

We are supporting a major player in the construction industry in the search for an experienced System Engineer to join their internal IT team on a long-term freelance assignment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior Microsoft 365 specialist who is comfortable working in a large-scale, predominantly on-premises environment and can help drive the organisation’s ongoing migration to cloud-based collaboration tools.

Role Overview

You will join a small specialist team responsible for the organisation’s Microsoft 365 environment. Currently, only two team members are focused on this area, and there is a strong need for additional expertise to support and accelerate the move towards cloud-based solutions, particularly SharePoint Online.

The environment is complex and enterprise-scale, featuring a substantial on-premises Exchange landscape operating in a hybrid setup with Microsoft 365.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and optimise the Microsoft 365 platform, including:
• SharePoint Online
• Exchange Online
• Microsoft Teams
• OneDrive
• Support and oversee a large hybrid Exchange environment with a significant on-premises footprint
• Contribute to the migration from on-premises collaboration platforms to SharePoint Online
• Monitor platform performance, security, and governance across the Microsoft ecosystem
• Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to ensure seamless integration

Required Experience

• Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 administration in large enterprise environments
• Strong expertise in:
• SharePoint Online
• Exchange Online
• Microsoft Teams
• Azure AD / Entra ID
• Solid understanding of hybrid Exchange environments
• Experience managing multi-tenant Microsoft 365 setups
• Experience in complex environments rather than small single-tenant organisations

Contract Details

• Contract Type: Freelance
• Location: East Flanders, Belgium
• Working Pattern: Primarily onsite, with up to 10 days of remote working per quarter
• Language Requirements: English required; Dutch is a strong advantage
• Duration: Long-term assignment
